What’s on a bathroom remodeling receipt

Every line is one part of the bathroom remodeling job, listed on its own so the client can see exactly what their payment covered.

Line itemUnitWhy it’s its own line
Bathroom gut demolition of fixtures and finisheseachDemolition is one fixed piece of the job whatever finishes go back, so it’s priced once.
Dust containment and floor protection setupeachProtecting the rest of an occupied home is real labor, and clients want to see it.
Rough-in shower valve and water supplyeachPlumbing rough-in happens before the walls close and may be inspected, so it’s its own stage.
Install exhaust fan and duct to exterioreachDucting the fan outside, not into the attic, is the kind of detail a client should see priced.

How bathroom remodeling jobs get paid

Bathroom remodels are paid in stages, so the client ends up with several receipts for one job. Each should name the stage it covers, such as the deposit, rough-in, tile or final, and show the total paid so far and what’s left. That running total is what settles questions halfway through the job.

Special orders change the deposit receipt. If part of the deposit buys a custom vanity, a glass enclosure or tile with a long lead time, say so on the receipt, along with whether that part can be refunded once the order is placed. Check your local rules on deposits for home improvement work before you set the amount.

Clients paying through a home improvement loan or a line of credit may need a receipt for each draw before the next one is released. The final receipt should list the fixtures installed, the waterproofing used and the warranty, and note the final inspection if a permit was pulled.

Bathroom remodeling receipt template FAQ

01Is this bathroom remodeling receipt template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02How do I show a deposit or a partial payment?
Keep the lines the payment covers and write the amount received as the total paid. Under Payment details, say it’s a deposit or a progress payment and write the balance still owed. In the Excel version, the amounts, the tax and the total paid calculate themselves.
03Can BuildWell send receipts for me?
Yes, with a subscription. Record each payment on the invoice with the amount, the method and a note, and partial payments add up; card and bank payments through Stripe are recorded for you. When the invoice is paid in full, Share receipt writes a message you can text or email, and the invoice can print with a paid stamp. It costs $7.99 a week or $79.99 a year after a 3-day free trial.
04How many receipts does a bathroom remodel need?
One for every payment. A job with a deposit, two progress payments and a final balance gets four receipts, each naming its stage and the total paid so far. The client can then match each one to the payment schedule on the signed quote.
05What goes on the receipt for a special-order vanity?
Write that the payment, or part of it, covers the vanity order, and name the item. Say whether it can be refunded after the order is placed. The client then knows what they’ve paid for, even if the job changes before the vanity is installed.
06Does a client with a remodel loan need receipts?
Often, yes. Lenders that pay in draws may ask for proof of each payment and the work it covered before releasing the next one. Name the stage, the date and the amount, and keep the line items the same as on the quote.
