What’s on a kitchen remodeling invoice

Every line is one part of the kitchen remodeling job, priced on its own so the client can see what each part of the job costs.

Line itemUnitWhy it’s its own line
Kitchen cabinet demolition and removalper linear ftOld cabinets come out by the foot of run, before anything new goes in.
Kitchen sink drain and supply rough-ineachA new or moved sink needs rough plumbing before the base cabinets are set.
Kitchen small appliance branch circuit rough-ineachCountertops need their own circuits under most codes, and each is electrician time.
Base cabinet set and installper linear ftBase cabinets are set by the foot of run and level the whole kitchen.
Wall cabinet hang and installper linear ftHanging uppers takes longer per foot than setting bases, so it’s a separate line.
Laminate countertop installper linear ftCountertops follow the base run. A different top changes this line, not the estimate.
Ceramic tile backsplash installper sq ftBacksplash is priced by area between the counter and the wall cabinets.
Under-cabinet LED lighting installper linear ftAn add-on many clients want. Its own line lets them decide.
Kitchen sink and faucet installeachSetting the sink and faucet is per fixture, whoever buys them.
Luxury vinyl plank flooring installper sq ftFlooring is often a separate decision and is priced by area.
Dumpster rental and haul-awayeachA dumpster is a fixed cost per job that clients don’t see unless it’s listed.

  3. 3

    Bill what was done

Enter the quantities actually installed, in linear feet, each and square feet, and record any deposit already received under Amount paid.

  4. 4

Add the invoice date, a due date and how to pay, save it as a PDF and send it.

How kitchen remodeling jobs are billed

Kitchen remodels are billed on a schedule tied to milestones: a deposit at signing, often a payment when the cabinets are ordered since they’re a large up-front cost, a progress payment after rough-in, and the balance after counters, backsplash and the punch list.

Cabinets and countertops are where changes pile up: an extra drawer base, a different edge, a moved sink. Bill each approved change as its own line so the final invoice matches the signed estimate plus the signed changes, with nothing to argue about.

Keep track of what the client bought themselves. Where they supplied appliances or fixtures, the invoice shows installation only for those lines, and a trip to return or exchange a wrong item they ordered can be billed as its own line at the rate you agreed. Where an inspection was required, note it before the balance.

Kitchen remodeling invoice template FAQ

01Is this kitchen remodeling invoice template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02Can I bill a deposit with this template?
Yes. Bill the deposit as its own invoice, then record it under Amount paid on the final invoice. In the Excel version, the balance due subtracts it for you.
03Can clients pay the invoice online?
Not from the template: it’s a file you send. In BuildWell, every invoice goes out as a link your client can pay by card or US bank transfer through Stripe once you connect it, with no BuildWell fee on top, or with the Zelle, Venmo or check details you list.
04Why are cabinets priced per linear foot?
Cabinet runs are measured along the wall, so a per-foot price scales with the kitchen and you don’t have to recount boxes for a longer run. Price base and wall cabinets separately because they take different time to install.
05Should appliances be on a kitchen estimate?
List what you’ll do with them: disconnecting and removing the old ones and hooking up the new ones. If the client is buying the appliances, say so in the terms so the price is clearly labor only.
06How do I price countertops before they’re measured?
Use an allowance based on the linear feet of base cabinet you measured, and note that the final price follows the fabricator’s measurement. Bill the difference on the invoice as its own line once the numbers are in.
