What’s on a plumbing invoice
Every line is one part of the plumbing job, priced on its own so the client can see what each part of the job costs.
| Line item | Unit | Why it’s its own line |
|---|---|---|
| Toilet removal and disposal | each | Taking out and hauling away the old toilet is separate from setting the new one, so the client sees both halves of the swap. |
| Toilet set and connect | each | Setting a fixture is priced per fixture, whether you supply it or the client does. |
| Kitchen sink and faucet installation | each | A per-fixture line with its own hours. If the client buys the faucet, the labor stays and the material comes off. |
| PEX water supply line run | per linear ft | Supply pipe is priced by the foot, so the line grows with the distance to the fixture. |
| 2 in PVC DWV drain line run | per linear ft | Drain and vent pipe is a different material and a different pace from supply, so it gets its own per-foot line. |
| Shower valve rough-in with backing | each | Rough-in happens with the walls open, before tile. A separate line lets you bill it as its own stage. |
| Rough plumbing pressure test and leak check | each | The test is real time on site and often an inspection step. A line shows it was done. |
| Water heater drain down removal and haul off | each | Draining and hauling the old tank is work clients often assume is free. |
| Tank water heater installation and connections | each | Usually the biggest single item on a service job, and one that often needs its own permit. |
| Plumbing access panel and drywall patch | each | Opening a wall to reach pipe means patching it after. Listing it settles who closes the wall. |
| Final cleanup and debris haul off | each | Cleanup and haul-away are part of the job; naming them shows they’re included. |

How plumbing jobs are billed
Most plumbing service work is invoiced the same day. The job is done in one visit, so the invoice goes out before you leave and is due on receipt. Larger jobs such as a repipe or a bathroom rough-in are usually billed in stages: a deposit to order material, a progress payment when rough-in passes inspection, and the balance after trim-out.
Bill the quantities actually installed. If the drain run came out longer than estimated or the client added a shutoff valve, put it on its own line so it matches what they approved. Keep your warranty terms on the invoice; it’s the copy the client files away.
For emergency and after-hours calls, show the trip or after-hours charge as its own line instead of raising the fixture prices, so the client can see why the bill is higher than a daytime visit. If you found something that had to be fixed to get the water back on, list it separately with a short note on what you found.
