What’s on a drywall invoice

Every line is one part of the drywall job, priced on its own so the client can see what each part of the job costs.

How drywall jobs are billed

New-construction and remodel drywall is usually billed in stages: once the board is hung, and again after finishing and texture. Repair work is a single invoice on completion, often subject to a minimum charge.

Bill the square footage actually hung. If the walls came out larger than estimated or the client added a room, show the difference as its own line. Keep the finish level on the invoice so it matches what was agreed.

On repair jobs, a minimum charge covers the separate visits that taping, coating and sanding take. Show it as a line when the work came in under it, so the client understands the price of a small patch. If painting was excluded, say on the invoice whether the repaired areas are primed or left ready for primer, so the client knows what comes next.

Drywall invoice template FAQ

01Is this drywall invoice template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02Can I bill a deposit with this template?
Yes. Bill the deposit as its own invoice, then record it under Amount paid on the final invoice. In the Excel version, the balance due subtracts it for you.
03Can clients pay the invoice online?
Not from the template: it’s a file you send. In BuildWell, every invoice goes out as a link your client can pay by card or US bank transfer through Stripe once you connect it, with no BuildWell fee on top, or with the Zelle, Venmo or check details you list.
04Should hanging and finishing be separate lines?
Yes, if you can. They’re different steps at different rates, and splitting them lets you bill hanging when it’s done and shows the client what a higher finish level costs.
05How do I price drywall patches?
Per patch, by size, with a minimum charge for small jobs. The template’s per-square-foot lines are for full walls and ceilings; add a line for each patch on a repair job.
06Which finish level should I quote?
Level 4 is the usual finish for painted walls in homes. Quote level 5 where walls get strong side light or glossy paint, and write the level on the estimate either way.
