The drywall quote template, with its line items listed

What’s on a drywall quote

Every line is one part of the drywall job, priced on its own so the client can see exactly what the fixed price covers.

Line itemUnitWhy it’s its own line
Dust containment and floor protection setupeachDrywall dust travels. Containment is set-up time on every job, priced once.
Existing drywall demolitionper sq ftTear-out is priced by area and includes bagging and hauling the debris.
R-13 fiberglass batt insulation in wall cavitiesper sq ftWith the walls open, insulation is priced by area and easy to add or drop.
Hang 1/2 in drywall on wallsper sq ftHanging is priced by the square foot of board, separately from finishing.
Hang 1/2 in drywall on ceilingsper sq ftCeilings are overhead and slower than walls, so they carry their own rate.
Hang moisture-resistant drywall in wet areasper sq ftWet-area board costs more than standard board and goes only where it’s needed.
Install metal corner beadper linear ftOutside corners are linear work, priced by the foot.
Level 4 three-coat joint finishingper sq ftFinishing is its own step with its own rate, and the finish level sets the price.
Level 5 skim coat finishper sq ftA level 5 finish is an upgrade for walls under strong light or glossy paint. Its own line lets the client choose it.
Spray knockdown texture on walls and ceilingsper sq ftTexture is an add-on per square foot that some clients want and others don’t.
Prime new drywall surfacesper sq ftPrimer may be yours or the painter’s. A line makes clear who’s doing it.
How to fill it in

Your drywall quote in four steps

  1. 1

    Add your details

Put in your business name, phone, email and license number once, and save the file as your master copy.

  2. 2

    Measure the job

Measure walls and ceilings in square feet, subtracting large openings, and measure outside corners in linear feet. Note the finish level the client expects.

  3. 3

Fix a price for each line

Enter a quantity and a fixed price on each line the job needs, in each, square feet and linear feet. Delete the lines you don’t need, and write what the price assumes in the terms.

  4. 4

    Send it for acceptance

Fill in the blanks in the terms, save it as a PDF and send it. The client signs the acceptance line, and the price holds for the work listed.

How drywall jobs are quoted

A drywall quote suits work with a clear boundary: a basement finished from open studs, a garage ceiling, a room of new board after a remodel. You can measure the framing, count the corners and set the finish level before you price it. Repairs are harder to fix a price on, because a small patch can become a section of wall once the damaged board is cut out, so quote patches each with a stated size limit.

The price assumes the framing is ready for board. Studs that are bowed or out of plane, missing blocking at corners and ceilings, and wiring or plumbing that hasn’t passed its rough-in inspection all slow the hang or show through the finish. Say in the quote who is responsible for the framing, and that corrections are priced before you start. On tear-outs, note that what you find inside the wall, such as mold, wet insulation or old wiring, sits outside the price.

Write the finish level and the texture on the quote, not just in conversation. Level 5 and knockdown stay as separate lines so the client can see what each adds. If you can’t start until the electrician and plumber finish, say how long the price holds and that a long delay may mean a revised quote.

Drywall quote template FAQ

01Is this drywall quote template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02How is this drywall quote different from the estimate template?
Both list the same drywall line items. The quote’s terms make the price fixed for the work listed and put anything else outside it, while the estimate’s terms leave room for the final price to change. Use the quote when you can see the whole job and stand behind one number.
03Can BuildWell send a quote for me?
Yes, with a subscription. Describe the job and BuildWell prices it line by line from stores near the job and your metro’s labor rates, and you can title the document Quote instead of Estimate. Your client opens it as a link, then signs and accepts it on their phone. It costs $7.99 a week or $79.99 a year after a 3-day free trial.
04Can I give a fixed price for a basement drywall job?
Yes, if you’ve seen the framing. Measure walls and ceilings from the studs, count the outside corners and set the finish level. Write down that framing, blocking and inspections are done before you hang, and price any corrections before you start.
05How do I quote a drywall patch when I can’t see the damage behind it?
Quote the patch by size, with a limit on the area it covers, and say that damage found once the board is cut out is priced before you continue. That keeps the patch price firm without promising a fixed price on a wall you haven’t opened.
06Should texture matching be in a drywall quote?
Say what you’ll match and how. Matching existing knockdown or orange peel on a repair is rarely perfect, so describe it as a close match to the surrounding wall and agree a sample with the client before you spray. New texture over a whole room is a separate line.
