The electrical quote template, with its line items listed

What’s on a electrical quote

Every line is one part of the electrical job, priced on its own so the client can see exactly what the fixed price covers.

Line itemUnitWhy it’s its own line
Branch circuit rough-in run 12/2 cableper linear ftNew circuits are priced by the foot of cable from the panel, so distance shows in the price.
Fish cable through finished wall or ceilingper linear ftFishing through finished walls is slower than open framing and is priced that way.
Old work device box cut-ineachEach new box in an existing wall is cutting, fishing and setting, priced each.
Standard duplex receptacle installeachDevices are counted, so adding three outlets changes the count and the total follows.
GFCI receptacle installeachGFCI devices cost more and take longer than standard ones, and code requires them in wet locations.
Remodel recessed LED light installeachRecessed lights are priced per fixture; the count is the price.
Ceiling fan install with rated brace boxeachA fan needs a box rated for its weight. The line covers the brace, not just hanging the fan.
Smoke and carbon monoxide alarm installeachAlarms are often required when a permit is pulled. Listing them avoids a surprise at inspection.
200 amp main service panel replacementeachA panel change involves a permit, an inspection and the utility, so it’s always its own line.
Drywall patch at electrical access openingseachAccess holes need patching. A line settles who closes the wall.
Circuit testing, panel labeling and final cleanupeachTesting and labeling are the last step of a correct job; naming them shows they were done.
How to fill it in

Your electrical quote in four steps

  1. 1

    Add your details

Put in your business name, phone, email and license number once, and save the file as your master copy.

  2. 2

    Measure the job

Count devices, fixtures and circuits room by room, and measure new cable runs in linear feet from the panel, noting which runs go through finished walls.

  3. 3

Fix a price for each line

Enter a quantity and a fixed price on each line the job needs, in linear feet and each. Delete the lines you don’t need, and write what the price assumes in the terms.

  4. 4

    Send it for acceptance

Fill in the blanks in the terms, save it as a PDF and send it. The client signs the acceptance line, and the price holds for the work listed.

How electrical jobs are quoted

Device work quotes cleanly. Adding receptacles, swapping a light for a ceiling fan on a rated brace box or putting recessed lights in a room with open attic above are jobs you can count, walk and price as one number. Troubleshooting is the opposite: a dead circuit or a breaker that keeps tripping has no fixed scope until you find the fault, so quote the diagnosis or bill it hourly.

The hidden part of a fixed electrical price is the existing system. A quote for new circuits assumes the panel has room for them, and a quote for old work assumes the cable can be fished without opening walls you didn’t plan to open. Say both in the terms. If the house has wiring that won’t pass once the inspector looks at your work, that’s a change, priced before you continue, not something you absorb.

A panel replacement is worth quoting as a fixed price because the scope is clear, but state what sits outside it: utility fees, a new meter base if the utility asks for one, grounding corrections and wall repairs around the panel. Hold the quote long enough to pull the permit and book the utility, and say the start date depends on both.

Terms already on the template

Fill in the blanks, or change them to match how you work.

  • This quote is a fixed price for the work listed and is valid for 30 days.
  • The price assumes the existing panel has the spaces and capacity for the circuits listed; a panel or service upgrade is priced as a change.
  • Existing wiring found unsafe or not to code is not included and is priced before work continues.
  • Drywall patching at access holes is included only where a line lists it; painting is excluded.
  • Work not listed is excluded and is priced in writing before it starts.

Electrical quote template FAQ

01Is this electrical quote template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02How is this electrical quote different from the estimate template?
Both list the same electrical line items. The quote’s terms make the price fixed for the work listed and put anything else outside it, while the estimate’s terms leave room for the final price to change. Use the quote when you can see the whole job and stand behind one number.
03Can BuildWell send a quote for me?
Yes, with a subscription. Describe the job and BuildWell prices it line by line from stores near the job and your metro’s labor rates, and you can title the document Quote instead of Estimate. Your client opens it as a link, then signs and accepts it on their phone. It costs $7.99 a week or $79.99 a year after a 3-day free trial.
04Can I give a fixed price on an electrical service call?
Quote the visit and the diagnosis as a fixed price, then quote the repair once you know what it is. A fixed price on an unknown fault puts all the risk on you, and the client gets a clear second decision once the problem is found.
05What should an electrical quote assume about the panel?
That it has open spaces and enough capacity for the new circuits, and that the wiring you connect to is in workable condition. Write that into the terms. If a load calculation shows the service is too small, the upgrade becomes a change priced before work continues.
06Does a fixed electrical price cover what the inspector asks for?
Only the work listed. If the inspector calls for something outside the quote, such as alarms in other rooms or corrections to existing wiring, price it as a change. Listing the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms up front avoids one of the usual surprises at inspection.
