What’s on a kitchen remodeling quote

Every line is one part of the kitchen remodeling job, priced on its own so the client can see exactly what the fixed price covers.

Line itemUnitWhy it’s its own line
Kitchen cabinet demolition and removalper linear ftOld cabinets come out by the foot of run, before anything new goes in.
Kitchen sink drain and supply rough-ineachA new or moved sink needs rough plumbing before the base cabinets are set.
Kitchen small appliance branch circuit rough-ineachCountertops need their own circuits under most codes, and each is electrician time.
Base cabinet set and installper linear ftBase cabinets are set by the foot of run and level the whole kitchen.
Wall cabinet hang and installper linear ftHanging uppers takes longer per foot than setting bases, so it’s a separate line.
Laminate countertop installper linear ftCountertops follow the base run. A different top changes this line, not the estimate.
Ceramic tile backsplash installper sq ftBacksplash is priced by area between the counter and the wall cabinets.
Under-cabinet LED lighting installper linear ftAn add-on many clients want. Its own line lets them decide.
Kitchen sink and faucet installeachSetting the sink and faucet is per fixture, whoever buys them.
Luxury vinyl plank flooring installper sq ftFlooring is often a separate decision and is priced by area.
Dumpster rental and haul-awayeachA dumpster is a fixed cost per job that clients don’t see unless it’s listed.
How to fill it in

Your kitchen remodeling quote in four steps

  1. 1

    Add your details

Put in your business name, phone, email and license number once, and save the file as your master copy.

  2. 2

    Measure the job

Measure base and wall cabinet runs and countertops in linear feet along the wall, the backsplash and floor in square feet, and count circuits, lights and plumbing connections.

  3. 3

Fix a price for each line

Enter a quantity and a fixed price on each line the job needs, in linear feet, each and square feet. Delete the lines you don’t need, and write what the price assumes in the terms.

  4. 4

    Send it for acceptance

Fill in the blanks in the terms, save it as a PDF and send it. The client signs the acceptance line, and the price holds for the work listed.

How kitchen remodeling jobs are quoted

A kitchen quote works when the design is settled: the cabinet layout drawn, the door style picked, the sink staying where it is or moving to a spot you’ve checked. Quoting before those choices are made means pricing a moving target, so finish the layout and quote that, or send an estimate while the client is still deciding.

Cabinets are the line to lock down. Once the order is placed it often can’t be changed or returned, so the quote should list the base and wall runs in linear feet and say the price holds for that layout only. Countertops work best as an allowance until the fabricator templates the installed bases. The small appliance circuits and the sink rough-in depend on what you find when the old cabinets come out, so say what the price assumes: room in the panel for the new circuits, and a drain that can reach the new sink.

List what the quote leaves out in plain words: appliances, the range hood duct, wall repairs behind the old cabinets and painting. Say how long the price is held, since cabinet prices can change between the quote and the order.

Kitchen remodeling quote template FAQ

01Is this kitchen remodeling quote template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02How is this kitchen remodeling quote different from the estimate template?
Both list the same kitchen remodeling line items. The quote’s terms make the price fixed for the work listed and put anything else outside it, while the estimate’s terms leave room for the final price to change. Use the quote when you can see the whole job and stand behind one number.
03Can BuildWell send a quote for me?
Yes, with a subscription. Describe the job and BuildWell prices it line by line from stores near the job and your metro’s labor rates, and you can title the document Quote instead of Estimate. Your client opens it as a link, then signs and accepts it on their phone. It costs $7.99 a week or $79.99 a year after a 3-day free trial.
04When should I quote a kitchen instead of estimating it?
Quote once the layout, cabinet style and countertop material are decided, and you’ve checked what you can behind and under the old cabinets. Before that, send an estimate so the client can compare options without you committing to a price on a design that’s still changing.
05What if the client changes cabinets after signing the quote?
Treat it as a change. Price the new cabinets and any knock-on work, such as a longer countertop or extra filler, in writing before you order. If the original cabinets are already ordered, say what the client owes for them, since special orders often can’t be returned.
06Should a kitchen quote say how long the work will take?
It helps. A start date and an expected length, with a note that cabinet and countertop lead times can move it, gives the family something to plan around while they’re without a kitchen. Keep it as an expected schedule rather than a promise unless you’re ready to stand behind the dates.
