The handyman quote template, with its line items listed

What’s on a handyman quote

Every line is one part of the handyman job, priced on its own so the client can see exactly what the fixed price covers.

Line itemUnitWhy it’s its own line
Patch small drywall hole and sandeachA flat price per patch is easier to approve than an hourly guess.
Re-caulk tub and shower perimeter jointper linear ftOld caulk has to come out before new goes in; priced by the foot of joint.
Pull and reset toilet with new wax ringeachA common fix with a known time. A flat line makes it easy to say yes to.
Replace leaking lavatory fauceteachPriced per faucet. If the client bought the faucet, it’s labor only.
Replace interior door knob seteachHardware swaps are quick, counted tasks that clients often add to a list.
Adjust and rehang sagging interior dooreachDoor adjustments are separate from replacing the door, and much cheaper.
Replace damaged baseboard runper linear ftBaseboard is measured by the foot, so the price follows the damage.
Prime and repaint patched wall areaper sq ftPatches need paint to disappear. A separate line makes clear whether that’s included.
Replace cracked floor tileeachEach tile is careful removal and resetting, priced each.
Install blocked-in bathroom grab bareachA grab bar needs solid blocking behind it to be safe. The line covers both.
Reseal gutter joints and clear debrisper linear ftOutside work priced by the foot of gutter, often added to an inside list.
How to fill it in

Your handyman quote in four steps

  1. 1

    Add your details

Put in your business name, phone, email and license number once, and save the file as your master copy.

  2. 2

    Measure the job

Walk the list with the client and give each task its own line. Count fixtures and fittings, and measure caulk joints and trim in linear feet and paint areas in square feet.

  3. 3

Fix a price for each line

Enter a quantity and a fixed price on each line the job needs, in each, linear feet and square feet. Delete the lines you don’t need, and write what the price assumes in the terms.

  4. 4

    Send it for acceptance

Fill in the blanks in the terms, save it as a PDF and send it. The client signs the acceptance line, and the price holds for the work listed.

How handyman jobs are quoted

A handyman quote turns a client’s list into a set of fixed prices they can approve before you arrive. Faucet swaps, knob sets, toilet resets, grab bars and caulk joints all suit it: you’ve done them before and know what they take. The client sees the total for the visit, picks the tasks they want, and nobody argues about the clock afterward.

Quote from what you’ve seen, not from a phone description. A photo of the faucet and the shutoffs under the sink tells you whether the valves will turn, and a look at the gutter tells you if it needs resealing or replacing. When a task hides its condition, like a cracked tile with a loose subfloor under it or a door that sags because the frame has moved, quote the visible repair and say what’s excluded if the cause turns out bigger.

Write the grab bar line to include the blocking, and state which tasks use the client’s parts. Keep tasks that call for a licensed electrician or plumber in your area off the quote. A short validity suits handyman work, since lists often grow before the visit; when one does, send a revised quote rather than adding lines by text message.

Handyman quote template FAQ

01Is this handyman quote template free?
Yes. Download the PDF, Word or Excel file and use it for as many jobs as you like. There’s no sign-up.
02How is this handyman quote different from the estimate template?
Both list the same handyman line items. The quote’s terms make the price fixed for the work listed and put anything else outside it, while the estimate’s terms leave room for the final price to change. Use the quote when you can see the whole job and stand behind one number.
03Can BuildWell send a quote for me?
Yes, with a subscription. Describe the job and BuildWell prices it line by line from stores near the job and your metro’s labor rates, and you can title the document Quote instead of Estimate. Your client opens it as a link, then signs and accepts it on their phone. It costs $7.99 a week or $79.99 a year after a 3-day free trial.
04Can a handyman give a fixed price for a whole to-do list?
Yes. Price each task as its own line and add them up for the visit total. The client can drop tasks to fit a budget, and you keep the same prices for the same tasks on the next job. Put a revised quote in writing if the list changes before you arrive.
05How do I quote a job I haven’t seen in person?
Ask for photos of the problem and the area around it, such as the shutoff valves under a faucet or the frame around a sagging door. Quote what the photos show, say what the price assumes, and note that anything different on site is priced before you do it.
06Should a handyman quote include parts?
Say which way each line works. Common parts like a wax ring or caulk can sit inside the task price. Where the client chooses the fixture, such as a faucet or knob set, say whether you’re supplying it or installing theirs, and that their part carries its own warranty.
