What’s on a handyman estimate
Every line is one part of the handyman job, priced on its own so the client can see what each part of the job costs.
| Line item | Unit | Why it’s its own line |
|---|---|---|
| Patch small drywall hole and sand | each | A flat price per patch is easier to approve than an hourly guess. |
| Re-caulk tub and shower perimeter joint | per linear ft | Old caulk has to come out before new goes in; priced by the foot of joint. |
| Pull and reset toilet with new wax ring | each | A common fix with a known time. A flat line makes it easy to say yes to. |
| Replace leaking lavatory faucet | each | Priced per faucet. If the client bought the faucet, it’s labor only. |
| Replace interior door knob set | each | Hardware swaps are quick, counted tasks that clients often add to a list. |
| Adjust and rehang sagging interior door | each | Door adjustments are separate from replacing the door, and much cheaper. |
| Replace damaged baseboard run | per linear ft | Baseboard is measured by the foot, so the price follows the damage. |
| Prime and repaint patched wall area | per sq ft | Patches need paint to disappear. A separate line makes clear whether that’s included. |
| Replace cracked floor tile | each | Each tile is careful removal and resetting, priced each. |
| Install blocked-in bathroom grab bar | each | A grab bar needs solid blocking behind it to be safe. The line covers both. |
| Reseal gutter joints and clear debris | per linear ft | Outside work priced by the foot of gutter, often added to an inside list. |

How handyman jobs are priced
Handyman work is a list of small, unrelated tasks, and there are two common ways to price it. Some handymen charge by the hour with a minimum, which is simple but leaves the client guessing at the total. Others price each task flat: a faucet swap, a door adjustment, a drywall patch, each with a set price that covers the trip, the time and small parts.
This template is built for flat task pricing. Each task is a line, so the client can approve the ones they want and drop the rest, and you can reuse your prices from job to job. Price the task, not the minutes: resetting a toilet takes about the same time in every house, and the client cares what it costs, not how long it took.
Two things to put in writing: a trip or minimum charge for small jobs, and the limits of what you do. Many states and cities require a trade license for electrical work, for plumbing beyond fixture swaps, or for jobs above a set dollar amount. Check your local rules and leave work you can’t legally do off the estimate.
