What’s on a concrete estimate
Every line is one part of the concrete job, priced on its own so the client can see what each part of the job costs.
| Line item | Unit | Why it’s its own line |
|---|---|---|
| Saw-cut and demolish existing concrete slab | per sq ft | Breaking out old concrete is heavy work with its own disposal cost, priced by area. |
| Concrete debris haul-out and jobsite cleanup | per sq ft | Broken concrete is heavy to haul. Listing it explains a cost clients don’t expect. |
| Excavate and grade subgrade for flatwork | per sq ft | Grading depends on the site, not on the slab, so it’s priced on its own. |
| Compacted gravel base course | per sq ft | The base under the slab is hidden once it’s poured. A line shows it’s there. |
| Slab edge formwork with 2x4 lumber | per linear ft | Forms are measured around the edge in linear feet. |
| Rebar grid reinforcement for slab | per sq ft | Reinforcement is a choice the client can see on paper but not once it’s poured. |
| Place and screed 4 in concrete slab | per sq ft | Placing concrete is priced by area at a set thickness; a thicker slab is a different price. |
| Broom finish and cure concrete flatwork | per sq ft | The finish is its own step, and decorative finishes cost more than broom. |
| Saw-cut control joints in slab | per linear ft | Control joints guide where the slab cracks, measured by the foot. |
| Apply penetrating concrete sealer | per sq ft | Sealing is optional and often done later. Its own line keeps it a choice. |
Your concrete estimate in four steps
- 1
Add your details
Put in your business name, phone, email and license number once, and save the file as your master copy.
- 2
Measure the job
Measure flatwork in square feet at its thickness and the edges in linear feet. For ordering, convert to cubic yards: square feet times thickness in feet, divided by 27.
- 3
Price each line
Enter a quantity and your unit price on each line the job needs, in square feet and linear feet. Delete the lines you don’t need and add any that are missing.
- 4
Send it for a signature
Read the terms, fill in the blanks, save it as a PDF and send it. The client signs the acceptance line before you start.
How concrete jobs are priced
Concrete flatwork is quoted by the square foot but built from cubic yards. A slab’s area times its thickness gives the volume, and the concrete is ordered and priced by the yard, often with a short-load charge when the pour is small. The template keeps flatwork in square feet at a stated thickness, the way homeowners compare driveway and patio bids, so write the thickness into the line.
Most of a slab’s cost is in what happens before the truck shows up: demolition and haul-off, excavation, gravel base, forms and reinforcement. Each is its own line because each depends on the site. Tearing out an old driveway costs far more than forming a patio on bare ground.
Finishing, control joints and sealing come last. A broom finish is the standard for outdoor flatwork; stamped and colored finishes are priced separately per square foot. Weather can move a pour date, so put your rescheduling terms in writing.
