At a glance

We looked at apps contractors use to write, send and get estimates approved, using only what each company states on its own site, checked on October 4, 2026; where a price or feature couldn’t be confirmed there, we left it out. BuildWell publishes this page, so there’s no ranking. Invoice Fly, the app most like BuildWell, is listed first where it appears, the rest follow alphabetically, and BuildWell comes last.

BuildWell

Good fit for: Contractors who want each estimate priced from local store prices and wages, then signed and paid

Describe a job by voice, text, photos or a floor plan; the AI picks the work and quantities, and prices come from stores near the job and BLS wages plus your overhead and markup. Clients sign on their phone, estimates become invoices with deposits and progress payments, and card or bank payments go through Stripe at cost. iPhone, Android and web; English or Spanish. Not a scheduling, CRM, time-tracking or accounting tool. [36][37][38][39][40][41]

Common questions

01Which estimating apps have a free plan?
Of the apps here, Contractor+ has a free plan, limited to 5 estimates or invoices a month. The others offer trials: 3 days for Invoice Fly and BuildWell, 7 days for Handoff, 14 days for Housecall Pro, Jobber and Joist. Buildertrend offers demos instead. [14][2][36][20][22][28][32][9]
02Which ones use AI to draft estimates?
BuildWell, Contractor+, Handoff and Joist each describe AI that drafts estimates, Housecall Pro says AI helps create estimate content, and Invoice Fly’s e-signature page says its AI can generate an estimate. They differ in where prices come from; see each app’s page for details. [37][16][18][33][23][4]
03Can clients e-sign estimates in all of them?
Each app here describes client approval or e-signatures on estimates or proposals. On Contractor+, contracts and e-signatures start with the Pro plan; on Joist they’re on every plan. [4][11][14][18][23][30][32][38]
04Do I need scheduling and dispatch too?
If you run crews, look at Jobber, Housecall Pro or Buildertrend, which include scheduling. Invoice Fly and BuildWell focus on estimates and invoices, and BuildWell doesn’t schedule jobs. [29][22][8][7][36]
