Proposal
A proposal is a document in which a contractor offers to perform a project, describing the scope, price, schedule and terms, often with reasons to choose them.
A proposal does more than state a price. It explains how you’ll do the work, when, with what materials and on what terms, and it often includes your license and insurance details, references and photos of similar work.
Use a proposal when the client is choosing a contractor, not just a price: larger remodels, design-build work, commercial jobs where the owner weighs qualifications. On public bids the format is set by the bid documents, and extra sales material may not be allowed.
A solid proposal has a clear scope with inclusions and exclusions, an itemized or summarized price, the payment schedule, start date and duration, allowances, warranty terms, how changes are handled, and an expiration date. Add a place to sign, so an accepted proposal becomes the agreement or leads straight to the contract.
Keep the sales part short and specific. Clients care that you show up, finish on time and clean up, so show evidence of that rather than adjectives.
